Night Shift, a Correctional Device for Positional Sleep Apnea
From Advanced Brain Monitoring, a Carlsbad, California company, Night Shift is a new gadget for patients with positional obstructive sleep apnea (POSA) and snoring problems. Worn on the back of the neck, Night Shift vibrates when the user starts to sleep on the back, increasing in intensity until it detects that the sleeper has rolled over. An additional monitoring function measures sleep quality and the frequency of unhealthy loud snoring. The web-based Report Portal helps patients and their healthcare providers to measure the effectiveness of the therapy and its effect on the quality of sleep.
The device makers hope to use the gathered data to help asses clinical inquiries such as efficiency with which the user slept, the degree of sleep fragmentation, the interaction between alcohol consumption, snoring, and sleep quality, and for tracking behavioral adaptation to position therapy.
FDA clearance for marketing has not been processed yet, but initial studies (which you can find on their site) indicate promising results.
